Rice and Peas! I'm Puerto Rican/Italian, and I once worked with a Jamaican woman who told me the only difference between Jamaican rice and peas and Puerto Rican arroz con gandules is the seasoning. We don't do coconut milk, but use sofrito and achiote infused oil with arroz con gandules, but it's still a Caribbean connection. And gandules are called pigeon peas in English, but I have known many Puerto Ricans to whom black eyed peas are a well loved food. At least in the Bronx, anyway.

Oh my gosh, I looove sofrito. Makes everything it touches taste so good! The Caribbean is all so very connected by food. Some distinctions but a lot of similarities. It's all delicious. Thanks, hj

WOW, thanks so much for this awesome video! I can't wait to try this dish with black eyed peas. I have always used red beans, so it'll be nice to try this variation. I LOVE black eyed peas!!!
Blessings, and Peace,
